Official dismisses S.C. senator’s AFRICOM claim

The Department of Defense said Friday that a South Carolina senator’s claim that his state is the “preferred” location for a new stateside headquarters for the military’s Africa Command is not true. The command, known as AFRICOM, is also being sought by Hampton Roads leaders to help make up for jobs lost this year with the closure of U.S. Joint Forces Command in Suffolk and Norfolk.
